Understanding Regenerative Medicine

Understanding Stem Cells & Exosomes

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are studied for how they communicate with other cells and influence the body's response to injury and inflammation. Our information focuses on cells from donated umbilical cord tissue, known as Wharton's Jelly. Your medical review connects this research to the questions that matter to you: possible benefits, risks and the evidence for your condition.

Exosomes are tiny particles released by cells that can carry biological messages. Researchers are exploring their role in communication between cells. They are different from living stem cells, and promising laboratory findings do not establish that a treatment will work for a patient. Our team can help you understand these differences before you consider your next step.

Wharton's Jelly MSCs

Cells studied for their signaling and immune interactions. Suitability, product quality and risks require an individual medical review.

Exosome Secretomes

Cell-derived vesicles studied for biological signaling. Evidence depends on the specific preparation, indication and clinical study.

Questions for your medical review

Ask to review manufacturing standards, donor screening, sterility and viability documentation for the exact product proposed to you.

The science, in context

Small signals.
Important questions.

Explore five parts of cellular research, from product source to patient outcomes. These are conceptual explanations of biology, not a prediction of what treatment will achieve.

Read the clinical evidence

01 / Cell source

Start with the source.

Wharton's Jelly mesenchymal stromal cells

Wharton's Jelly is the connective tissue of the umbilical cord. Researchers study mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) isolated from this tissue for their biological properties. A tissue source alone does not establish the safety or effectiveness of a finished cell product.

Ask for donor screening, manufacturing controls, batch identity, sterility and viability documentation for the exact product being proposed. Low immunogenicity does not mean zero rejection or zero risk.

What has been verified for this product and this batch?

Conceptual research scene with cell-culture containers for a discussion of product quality checks.

02 / Cell signals

Cells communicate.

Paracrine signals and extracellular vesicles

MSCs release soluble factors and extracellular vesicles that can influence other cells. Exosomes are one type of extracellular vesicle. Their composition depends on the source cells and the way the product is manufactured and characterized.

Laboratory signaling effects are not proof of a clinical benefit. An exosome preparation is not interchangeable with a living-cell product, and reaching the brain or another target tissue cannot be assumed.

Which findings are laboratory observations, and which come from human trials?

Conceptual illustration of small extracellular vesicles with translucent lipid membranes.

03 / Delivery

The route matters.

Distribution, dose and administration

Researchers investigate how cells and their signals behave after administration. Where a product travels, how long it persists and whether it reaches the intended tissue depend on the product, route and patient context. Homing is a research concept, not guaranteed targeting.

Intravenous, local joint and other delivery routes have different risks and evidence. Discuss the rationale, monitoring and alternatives for the specific route proposed to you.

Why this route, and what are its specific risks?

Educational vascular and joint models illustrating a discussion of different administration routes.

04 / Immune response

A complex conversation.

Research into inflammation and immune signaling

MSC-related signals are studied for their interactions with immune cells. Immune responses vary with disease, manufacturing conditions and the patient's biology. A simplified animation cannot show this full complexity or predict an individual response.

Evidence for one condition or cell product cannot establish benefit for another. Do not stop prescribed treatment on the basis of a proposed cellular mechanism; changes belong in a discussion with your treating specialist.

How does the evidence apply to my diagnosis and current care?

Conceptual illustration of different immune cells near a stromal cell.

05 / Clinical evidence

Measure what matters.

Patient outcomes, uncertainty and follow-up

Clinical studies need to measure meaningful outcomes and adverse events over an appropriate follow-up period. A change in a biomarker or laboratory image does not by itself demonstrate restored cartilage, nerve recovery or a lasting benefit.

A medical review should cover the quality of the evidence, realistic goals, alternatives and the possibility of no benefit. Ask how outcomes and complications will be documented after you return home.

How will benefit, no benefit and adverse effects be assessed?

Blank research pages and a magnifying lens representing careful review of clinical evidence.

Evidence and regulatory status vary by product and indication. Discuss the exact proposed intervention, alternatives and uncertainty with a qualified specialist.

Clinical Decision Framework

Compare the evidence. Understand your options.

A medical decision needs more than a proposed mechanism. Review the evidence, risks and recovery expectations for each option with a specialist who understands your diagnosis.

This is a discussion guide, not a recommendation or a before-and-after result. Cell-based interventions and surgery are not interchangeable options for every diagnosis.
01Evidence and intended benefit

Joint replacement

Joint replacement may be recommended for some people with advanced joint disease when appropriate non-surgical care has not provided sufficient relief. Whether it is suitable depends on an orthopedic assessment.

Cell and exosome proposals

A cell or exosome product must be assessed on evidence for that exact product and indication. Proposed effects on inflammation or cartilage do not establish that it can replace indicated surgery or restore a damaged joint.

02Risks and uncertainties

Joint replacement

Discuss procedure-specific risks, anesthesia, infection, blood clots, implant complications and the possibility of persistent symptoms with your surgeon.

Cell and exosome proposals

Discuss product quality, infection and administration risks, immune reactions, uncertainty about long-term effects and the possibility of no benefit. An injection is not risk-free because it is less invasive.

03Recovery and follow-up

Joint replacement

Rehabilitation and follow-up form part of the surgical plan. Timelines depend on the procedure, your health and recovery; an individual estimate is more useful than a universal promise.

Cell and exosome proposals

The route, observation period, travel timing and follow-up must be specified in the proposed protocol. Same-day discharge does not demonstrate effectiveness or remove the need to monitor adverse effects.

04Questions for your consultation

Joint replacement

What are the expected benefits for my joint disease? Which non-surgical alternatives are appropriate? What will rehabilitation involve, and who will manage complications?

Cell and exosome proposals

What is the product's regulatory status for my diagnosis? Which controlled human studies support it? Is this a registered trial? How are outcomes, complications and ongoing standard care managed?

The information on this site focuses on mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from umbilical cord tissue, also called Wharton's Jelly. During your review, ask which product is proposed, how it is sourced and tested, and what evidence applies to your condition. Request the relevant manufacturing and quality documentation; a tissue source alone does not establish product safety or benefit.

No medical procedure is risk-free. Safety depends on the cell product, manufacturing quality, administration route, condition and individual health. Ask the medical team to explain known risks, uncertainty about long-term effects, alternatives and how complications would be managed. Evidence for one cell therapy does not establish safety or effectiveness for every product or condition.

Most treatment programs require 3–7 days in Istanbul, depending on your specific protocol. This includes initial medical assessment, treatment sessions, and post-treatment observation. Our international patient coordinators help arrange comfortable accommodation and local transportation throughout your stay.

Costs depend on the proposed product, procedure, number of sessions and follow-up. Request a written itemized estimate that explains what is included, possible additional care costs and cancellation terms. Compare like-for-like proposals and discuss the evidence and risks alongside price.

There is no guaranteed result or universal timeline. Evidence varies by condition and product, and some patients may have no benefit. During a medical review, discuss what controlled human studies show for the proposed intervention, how outcomes will be measured and what follow-up is planned.

Cell-based treatments in Turkey are overseen by the Ministry of Health, and clinics must work within its authorisations for the products they use. Ask any clinic in Istanbul to show its licence, which cell product is proposed, where it is manufactured and which approval covers your intended use before you commit.

Compare clinics on documentation rather than marketing: named treating physicians, the specific cell product and its laboratory testing, a written itemised quote, published risks, and the human evidence for your condition. Be cautious with guaranteed outcomes, cure claims or pricing offered before a medical review.
